Top attractions in the Golden Gate Park are:
- The Japanese Tea Garden:
The next location on the list is a gorgeous Japanese tea garden, which is to the west. During the 1894 Exposition, this was one of the most viewed attractions. Japanese Tea Garden is one of the oldest in United States. Formerly the garden was once one acre in size, but it is currently three acres. You genuinely get the feeling that you’ve wandered into a serene, stress-free world when you visit. However, because it is one of the most difficult areas of the park to maintain, entry is fee-based.
Make sure to have a real Japanese tea ceremony at the Tea House. It’s a cool escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Take a stroll over the Moon Bridge, which was built with the aim to slow people down so they could enjoy the view. The garden’s lush landscape applauds the traditional Japanese art of the garden. Tourists enjoy stunning flower display of Japanese maples, twisting pines, clipped azaleas and cherry trees in the month of March and April.
- The de Young Museum:
The San Francisco’s oldest museum, the de Young, is housed in an amazingly modern copper-sheathed building designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architects Herzog & de Meuron. The museum was founded in 1921.The museum has a huge art collection, from 19th century paintings, abstract art, African masks, pre-Columbian pottery and special travelling displays like King Tut or the impressionists. Exhibits constantly change, although there are some original art pieces. The museum café is amazing and has a changing menu caused by the rotating displays, a perfect place to have a lunch.
- The Conservatory of flowers:
The Conservatory of a flower opened in 1879 and is the oldest building in Golden Gate Park and San Francisco’s most admired spots. When you enter from the East side of the park, the first prime attraction you will come across is the Conservatory of Flowers. It is home to some 1,700 varieties of tropical and aquatic plants, many of which are exclusive. Among these are huge water lilies, a worldly recognized orchid collection, carnivorous plants, and a 100-year-old Imperial philodendron. Famous favourites like the Butterfly Zone and the tiny garden railway have been featured as distinct exhibitions. Visitors gaze at the enormous clock made of flowers and the magnificent glass greenhouse from a time gone by. The Victorian architecture of this building is praiseworthy and to enjoy it more take stroll around it. It has 4 different rooms, each with the display of different type of exotic plants. Discover their five unique galleries, each of which emphasizes on a different ecosystem, such as the cloud forests of Ecuador or the dense tropical rainforests of Sumatra. Another cutting-edge community program that gives the Conservatory a new look is called Night Bloom. The special exhibit also changes throughout the year. Timing for the Conservatory of Flowers is from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and on the first Tuesday of every month admission is free.
- Stow Lake and Strawberry Hill:
Certainly Stow Lake is the most popular and favourite lake in Golden Gate Park. It is an alluring, man-made lake with waterfalls and a Chinese Temple with charming walking trails and boats to rent. Keep in mind that the Stow Lake was the first man-made lake to be constructed in this area as the sandy ground on which the park was established had no water.
In case you’re wondering how it earned its name, W. W. Stow, a man, contributed $60,000 to help with the building.
You can rent pedal boats and row boats from a famous boat house. Presiding over the lake is Strawberry Hill. There are different bridges that lead to the hill; the Rusty Stone Bridge is the most popular. It is great to visit. Huntington Falls, an artificial cascade on Strawberry Hill, is powered by water from a reservoir at the peak of the hill. Water from the reservoir powers high-pressure water mains that irrigate different city hydrants. In reality, Stow Lake acts as a backup reservoir for the park’s irrigation system in the event that one or more of the pumps breakdown.
