During the 19th century, the Ballantine family was regarded to be one of the leading brewing families in Newark. The residence is an imitation of the one possessed by Jeannette and John Holme Ballantine. Furthermore, the original Ballantine House was a 27-room mansion made of brick and limestone that had three bathrooms and eight bedrooms. The “House & Home” gallery suite, which consists of six themed galleries, two hallways, and eight period rooms, is on display for two floors. The items in these rooms could have been in homes from the 1650s to the present. Since 1937, the Ballantine House has been a featured exhibit at the Newark Museum of Art. Additionally, the house received the National Historic Landmark designation.
